Celebrity Hair Interview: Elaine Hendrix

Elaine Hendrix

As someone with a busy schedule, do you have any tips for looking after your hair when time is tight?

My hair is thin, but I have a decent amount of it. I do everything I can to keep it healthy, which is most important to me, especially when I'm busy. So, keeping it well-conditioned is my top priority. I also don't over wash it, so it doesn't get too dry.

Elaine Hendrix with short straight hair How do you choose a red carpet hairstyle? Do you base it on your outfit, or do you pick the hairstyle and go from there?

My style starts with an idea for a "look", and then I build everything around that. I don't always get to go all out as I would like, but for more "fancy" red carpets, I usually put on some extra flair. Vintage styles are my favorite.

If you could change your hair color, what hair color would you choose?

Funny, someone just posted a picture of me online talking about how much they like my hair when I went brunette (for a movie). I did like that, but I think it only looks good when my hair is long. So, I'd have to say - something REALLY dark and dramatic - to contrast with my blue eyes and pale skin.

Do you have any hair or makeup secrets or tips that you've learnt over the years that you'd like to share with our users?

Elaine Hendrix with short, spiked hair Experiment! That's what I do. I look at various styles I like and try them out on my own face. The most important areas to me are: defining eyebrows, blushing cheeks, giving a good, thick coat of mascara and painting color on the lips. If you can splurge to have one or two sessions with a pro - it's worth every penny! Bottom-line: know your own face, its shape and what suits it.

Are there any makeup or hair products you can't live without?

I'm not totally into one specific product or another, because I try a lot of different ones that are given to me. However, the one thing I can't live without no matter what product it is: the "leaping bunny" or "No Animal Testing"!!! I absolutely refuse to use products that have been tested on animals (one of my favs is John Paul Mitchell). I'm constantly passing along which companies do test and which don't...to anyone who will listen. =^.^=

Do you have a favorite way to style your hair when you're not working?

When I'm working my hair usually goes through such a process that when I'm not working - I really like to let it do its own thing. I look like a bit of a ragamuffin sometimes, but on days off, even raking a brush through it sometimes feels like abuse.
